AREAS OF COMPETITION

Miss North Dakota 2027/Miss America 2027 Eligibility Requirements (subject to change):

  • For Miss North Dakota – no younger than 18 as of Sept. 1, 2027; no older than 28 as of Sept. 30, 2027

  • For Miss North Dakota’s Teen: no younger than 14 as of Sept. 1, 2027; no older than 18 as of Sept. 30, 2027

  • Be a United States citizen

  • Be a female

  • Be unmarried with no children

  • Meet residency requirements for competing in North Dakota

    • Have a primary address in North Dakota for at least 120 days before the local competition OR

    • Be an enrolled, full-time student at an accredited college or university in North Dakota OR

    • Work full time in North Dakota for at least 120 days before the local competition

Private Interview (30% of Overall Score): Each contestant will meet with our panel of judges for a 10 minute interview. The goal of this phase of competition is for the judges to get to know each contestant, her potential and ability to represent Fargo/Cass County at the State Competition, her commitment to her Community Service Initiative, and overall preparedness.

 

  • In preparation for this phase of competition, each contestant must submit a FACT SHEET. A detailed template will be provided.
     

  • Each contestant must choose a COMMUNITY SERVICE INITIATIVE which is a cause, organization, or educational program that she will advocate for using her platform as a local and future state titleholder. Contestants who are unsure about how to select a CSI can contact a local director for guidance. A One-Page CSI STATEMENT is also required from each contestant and a detailed template will be provided.

Wardrobe: Business Attire, with a hint of glam - dress or pants acceptable.

Talent (20% of Overall Score): Each contestant will perform a 90 second talent of her choice. Talents can range from vocal, instrumental, dance, monologues, art, poetry, and many other variety acts. Contestants may also choose a HERStory Talent, which is a Ted Talk Style public speaking presentation. Judges will be looking for entertainment value, skill level, and overall preparedness.

  • Contestants who have questions about accepted talents, or want assistance formulating a talent piece can reach out to a local director.

Wardrobe: Talent costume should be appropriate for your type of talent.

Evening Gown (20% of Overall Score): Each contestant will model her choice of evening wear, similar to a red carpet event. Contestants are scored on poise, stage presence, and confidence. The Gown itself is not judged.

Wardrobe: Gown of choice. Be sure to choose something age appropriate based on your division (Miss or Teen)

Fitness (20% of Overall Score): Each contestant will model Rebel Athleticwear. Judges will be looking for confidence in presentation, demonstration of health and fitness, and representation of #MissAmericaFit. Contestants are not judged on body type or size. Rebel offers a variety of options of athleticwear so each young woman can feel her most confident!

Wardrobe: Choice of Rebel Athletic Wear (Miss America Red) and white shoes

On-Stage Question (10% of Overall Score): Each contestant will answer 1-2 questions about herself and/or her CSI on stage. Judges are looking for public speaking ability and a titleholder who can eloquently present her ideas and CSI.

Wardrobe: Black Cocktail Dress, will also be worn for Opening Introductions

Opening Number is not judged. 

All Miss and Teen Delegates compete and are scored in the same five areas of competition.

Create an online account with Miss America.
  • One-Time Fee - $49.99​
  • During this process you or your parent will sign a Delegate Contract, including age and residency verification.
  • Even if you competed in the 2026 State Competition you MUST create a new account for the 2027 cycle.

Complete the Miss Fargo Registration Form Below
  • Registration Fee - $75.00
     
Step 3: 
Following registration, an email will be sent with instructions on completing and submitting your competition paperwork, headshot, and talent music

​Step 4: 
 Register a Spotfund Account for American Heart Association Fundraising
  • Spotfund Setup Link will be sent after Registration.
  • All Local Miss & Teen Contestants must raise $30 for AHA by the date of the local competition.
